Article 34. Exemptions
1. When warned of the approach of a priority vehicle by its special luminous and
audible warning devices every road-user shall leave room clear for it to pass on
the carriageway and shall, if necessary, stop.
2. Domestic legislation may provide that drivers of priority vehicles shall not
be bound, when warning of their movement is given by the vehicle’s special warning
devices, and provided that they do not endanger other road-users, to comply with
all or any of the provisions of this Chapter II other than
those of Article
6, paragraph 2.
3. Domestic legislation may determine to what extent persons working on the construction,
repair or maintenance of the road, including the drivers of equipment used for such
work, shall not be bound, provided they take the necessary precautions, to observe
the provisions of this Chapter II during their work.
4. For the purpose of overtaking or passing the equipment referred to in paragraph
3 of this Article while it is engaged in work on the road, the drivers of other
vehicles may, to the extent necessary and on conditions that they take all due precautions,
disregard the requirements of
Articles 11 and Artical 12
of this Convention.
